📦 How to Install a GPL Theme in WordPress

1

Download the Theme

Download your desired premium theme’s .zip file from a reliable and trusted GPL provider like Shineads.

2

Extract & Check Files (Important)

Sometimes, the downloaded file contains documentation, plugins, and the actual theme. Extract the downloaded file on your computer to find the installable theme-name.zip file inside.

3

Go to WordPress Dashboard

Log in to your WordPress admin panel. In the left-hand menu, navigate to Appearance and click on Themes.

4

Click Upload Theme

Click the ‘Add New’ button at the top of the page, followed by the ‘Upload Theme’ button.

5

Select Zip File & Install

Click on ‘Choose File’ and select the main theme .zip file from your computer. After selecting it, click on ‘Install Now’.

6

Activate the Theme

Once the installation is complete, a success message will appear. Click the ‘Activate’ link to make your GPL theme live on the website.

🛠️ Common Installation Issues & Solutions

Issue 1: “The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.”

Solution: You have uploaded the wrong file. Extract the main .zip file you downloaded first. Look inside the extracted folder to find the actual installable theme .zip file, and upload that one instead.

Issue 2: “The link you followed has expired.”

Solution: Your WordPress/hosting has a low file upload size limit. You can fix this by increasing the upload_max_filesize in your cPanel. Alternatively, you can upload the theme directly via cPanel File Manager into the wp-content/themes/ folder and extract it there.

⚠️
Security Warning: Always download GPL themes from a trusted provider like Shineads. Avoid using random “nulled” or free cracked sources, as they often contain malicious code or backdoors that can compromise your website.
